BAU AIR

Bau AIR is the residency program of Bau. Under this title we offer customized four- to sixweek residencies for independent makers in the performing arts, with a focus on artistic research, depth, and experimentation. Makers from the broad field of dance and performance are given time and space during the residency to explore new ways of working, delve deeper into themes, and/or establish collaborations in the research phase of a new project. Bau provides a fee, studio space, production support, and artistic coaching. Each residency concludes with a public presentation that is open to the audience. This insight into the resident's work ranges from a performance to a conversation about the content of the work.

Bau AIR offers two types of residencies:

Bau AIR Base residency
Once a year, Bau calls for three basic residencies for a proven performing arts talent. Through the open call and the use of ambassadors who are in networks other than Bau's, we expand our field of vision and reach creators who are not immediately on our radar. From the Open Call applications, an annually rotating selection committee selects three residencies. From 2025, the Bau AIR Base residency lasts six weeks.

The Open Call for Bau AIR Base is now open. Apply by 15 April 2025. Please check our Open Call page

Curated residencies
In addition to the Bau AIR Base residency, Bau organizes three residencies each year, lasting at least four weeks, in collaboration with cultural partners. We curate these co-residencies to respond to current topics that require further research and new perspectives. This collaboration increases the maker's development opportunities, (future) presentation possibilities, visibility and network.
